Projects

The Interact Club at Jasper Place is a service club that offers students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and personal integrity, by demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others and advancing international understanding and goodwill.

This school year, our main initiative is directed at providing financial support for Water for Life (a project of Africa We Care — for more information, visit www.africawecare.org).

In order to raise funds and awareness, we are holding a banquet and silent auction at Jasper Place High School on April 12, 2012, with all proceeds to be directed toward the Water for Life initiative.

If you would like to support us in our event or would like more information about this worthy cause, please call 780-399-0383 or contact Miss Ritchie, the leadership coordinator at the school.

“A shipping container packed with bales of clothings, school supplies and computers bound for Kenya stolen from an Edmonton based charity has been recovered”.  – News media.

Dear friends of Africa We Care:

I thank the Edmonton news media for the recovery of the cargo due to their unprecedented publicity of the theft. I am equally grateful to Mr. George Catling who spotted the sea-can and reported to the Edmonton Police.

This unfortunate incident has generated more awareness and an outpouring of support for the work we do among the most impoverished people of Africa. The community at large has responded with donations of articles of clothings and other items, for which we are very appreciative.

Bales of articles of used clothings, and shoes on one of our locations in Africa – Cotonou, Republic of Benin in West Africa

We are in desperate need of financial assistance to be able to carry on our work. To ship a 40ft container of cargo to most need in Africa costs about $7,500. And when the container reaches its destination we have to pay the local custom duties, usually in the thousands of dollars, to clear the cargo. The recent shipment to Kenya is estimated to cost about $16,000 to clear customs when it arrives in the Port of Mombasa, Kenya on July 22, 2010.

I very humbly ask for your financial assistance. No amount is too small. We do issue receipts for monetary donations for income tax purposes.

Africa We Care is incorporated in Alberta, and registered with Canada Revenue Agency as charitable organisation. Registration number: 86065-3930 RR0001.

Thank you very kindly for your generous donation.

Sincerely,
Africa We Care
